Lack of space at the prison in Karlskrona: "The limit has been reached"

Now that the 23 places have been taken, the detention center has had up to 33 people in place.

– The limit has been reached, there is no more space to use in Karlskrona. That's not good, of course, but there aren't many other solutions right now," Bostrom said.

Since before, the prison in Karlskrona has had to maximize the areas by using visiting rooms and also allowing inmates to live together in bunk beds.

Missing places in the south

Lack of space is not only a problem in Blekinge but also in Skåne.

When the new facilities that are underway are available, including in Kristianstad, the Prison and Probation Service hopes that they will be able to ease the pressure on other facilities.

"The situation is difficult today, but at the same time I see hope ahead.
