The park was planned right next to the E4 near Tierp. For many years, there has been agriculture on the land, but then the company Helios Nordic Energy agreed with the landowner to lease it.

The purpose: To build a 55-hectare photovoltaic system. It was supposed to have been in operation this summer, but neighbor Lars-Gunnar Sandin's appeal put a spanner in the works.

The requirement: Investigate alternative locations

The Land and Environment Court has now decided to reject the building permit granted by Tierp municipality and the county administrative board. The judgment states, among other things: "The fact that it is farmland worthy of use is undisputed in the cases."

Therefore, the company must show that there are no other suitable locations for the photovoltaic system. According to the ruling, the company has not produced any investigation that shows that.

Have sent a new building permit application

Sweden's largest solar parks right now, in terms of power, are located in Skurup and Sjöbo. They have an installed capacity of 18 megawatts (MW), according to the Swedish Energy Agency.

Helios Nordic Energy states that the planned park's power was 47 MW, i.e. the largest in Sweden if it was completed at the appointed time. So that will not be the case now. Instead, the company has had to start from scratch.

– We did not appeal the ruling but have just submitted a new building permit application to satisfy the neighbor's wishes not to put substations on agricultural land, writes Magnus Rahm, development manager at the company in an email to SVT.
