• Remodeling Sánchez limits his fifth government crisis to the departure of Maroto and Darias without touching the ministries of Podemos and two party men enter
  • Politics The PSOE believes that Podemos already sees Feijóo as a winner and works for a future with Irene Montero

Héctor Gómez (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1978), new Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism replacing Reyes Maroto, faces the last stage of the legislature with a demanding and complex task ahead. European funds, the conversion towards sustainability of important sectors, starting with the automotive sector, and the battle against the thorniest derivatives of the war in Ukraine mainly for trade, will be its most important tasks.

His industriousness and his moderate and dialoguing spirit will help him in the effort. Two characteristics that accompanied him during his performance as socialist spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, a position in which he replaced Adriana Lastra until he was removed to make room for Patxi López at a time when the President of the Government wanted to undertake a stage of greater aggressiveness against the opposition.

As the first voice of the socialist group in the Lower House, Gómez distinguished himself by analyzing the issues in depth, fleeing from the vociferous argument and maintaining good relations with the spokesmen of the other parliamentary groups and with the press.

He has a diploma in Tourism from the University School of Tourism, a degree in Labor Sciences and a degree in Law. On this occasion, the President of the Government has chosen a profile knowledgeable about one of the three key tasks of the Department that he will direct and that has a fundamental weight in the national GDP. Gómez has been general director of Turespaña and to this he adds an extensive knowledge of Spanish foreign relations.

He has been a member of the PSOE since 2003 and his political career has been ascending: from the tenure of Mayor in the City Council of Guía de Isora, to deputy of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, deputy in Congress, spokesman of the socialist parliamentary group and, to date, president of the Constitutional Commission in Congress. From now until next December, unless the elections are unforeseen in advance, he will be a government minister.
