Meng Zhijie's grandfather participated in the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, and his father participated in the 1998 flood fight and rescue with the army in Jingzhou, Hubei Province and was awarded third-class merit. Influenced by his grandfather and father, Meng Zhijie was determined to "take over the guns of his fathers" when he grew up and serve the country with a pen.
