USA: None of my business

Russia: US 'very nervous'

On September 2022, 9, an explosion leaked in the Nord Stream pipeline, which carries natural gas from Russia to Europe via the Baltic Sea. It was widely accepted that the incident was "sabotage".

On February 2023, 2, senior US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh broke the news that the "Nord Stream" pipeline explosion was carried out by the US military at the behest of US President Joe Biden, and the Norwegian army participated in it. The United States insisted on denying that it was related to the explosion of the Nord Stream pipeline.

After the explosion, Denmark, Sweden and Germany began independent investigations. Russia has repeatedly called for a joint investigation, but the relevant countries have refused.

The Russian foreign minister said, "We (Russia) do not expect the investigation to be transparent, nor do we expect the results of the investigation to be made public." He said that Russia has repeatedly asked for cooperation in investigating the matter, but has not received any response from relevant parties.

Lavrov also said that Russia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council asking the UN secretary-general to organize an impartial, objective and transparent investigation with the broad participation of international experts, but the move made the United States "very nervous." The United States is trying to rally some countries to jointly prevent the adoption of the draft resolution submitted by the Russian side.

Denmark invited the "Nord Stream" operator to salvage

The Council will vote on the Russian draft resolution

According to a report by the Russian News Agency on the 24th, the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) invited Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Nord Stream, to participate in the salvage of objects found near the natural gas pipeline.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia proposed that Denmark inspect the "Nord Stream" pipeline to determine whether there were other explosive devices, but the Danish side gave a vague answer.

Putin said that while probing the gas pipeline, Gazprom experts found a "small column" at the junction of the pipeline, about 30 kilometers from the explosion point, which was installed in a vulnerable place of the pipeline.

Russian experts believe that this may be a signal receiver to activate the explosive device. Putin noted that several explosive devices may have been placed under the pipeline system, some detonated, some not.

The Danish side said that in order to further clarify the nature of the object, the Danish government decided to salvage it to the surface with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense. The Danish Energy Agency invited pipeline operator Nord Stream 2 AG to participate. The agency is awaiting a response from Nord Stream 2 AG before proceeding.

The department also released an image showing "the object" in the shape of a cylinder, about 40 centimeters high and 10 centimeters in diameter.

Whether the explosion of the "Nord Stream" natural gas pipeline can be stripped away and finally reveal the truth may still require more efforts from all parties.

According to the latest news, the representative of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations said that the UN Security Council will vote on Russia's draft resolution calling for the establishment of a special committee to investigate the "Nord Stream" incident on the 27th.
