It was on Monday that the woman in her 40s was found dead in Taberg, south of Jönköping. The now-suspected man was arrested first in absentia and then physically. On Friday morning, the district court received a remand petition and now the man is in custody.

According to information to SVT, the dead woman is from the municipality of Gothenburg and she disappeared from her home on February 24. Her family says they have received word from the police that it is most likely she who has been found now.

Connection to houses in Taberg

The man is in his 20s and has a connection to the residence in Taberg that was cordoned off when the woman was found dead in a wooded area next door.

He is suspected on probable cause of murder, but his defender Andreas Grudemo told SVT even before the hearing that the man denies any wrongdoing. He also maintained that at the hearing in district court. The man is in custody for four weeks and charges are due at 11 a.m. on April 21.

Continued preliminary investigation

District Attorney David Larson held the detention hearing on behalf of the Attorney General's Office.

"The preliminary investigation is now continuing. We work broadly and unconditionally with a variety of investigative measures, such as interrogations and technical investigations. That's a lot of tasks to sort out in the initial stages of a murder investigation," David Larson, said in a press release.
