It is the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency that has granted the state grant of SEK 81 million to the County Administrative Board of Jönköping County, which in turn will convey it to the Geological Survey of Sweden, SGU, which is primarily responsible for the work of carrying out post-treatment of the contaminated area.

On the plot at Mariebo in Jönköping there used to be a dry cleaner. The County Administrative Board has classified the land as very dangerous to human health and the environment. The families who have houses in the area have for a long time been arguing with Jönköping municipality about receiving compensation. Last summer, it was announced that the poison-affected properties are valued at between SEK 5 and 5.9 million and that Jönköping Municipality will buy out the property owners.

Funding ready

With the announcement of state subsidies, there is now also funding to fix the plots.

" We are very pleased that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has given us this positive news. It is a crucial and important decision for this long, complicated and difficult process to continue forward, says Emma Willaredt, head of the Community Department at the County Administrative Board in Jönköping County in a press release.
