In the Tokushima gubernatorial election, the LDP prefectural federation has endorsed incumbent Iizumi, who is seeking a sixth term.

On the other hand, former LDP member of the House of Representatives Gotota and former member of the House of Councillors Miki are supported by local government heads and some local councilors, creating a "conservative split."

The Communist Party fielded Mr. Furuta, the general secretary of the prefectural committee.
