In January, rents for commercial premises were increased by almost 11 percent in the country , according to the Swedish Trade Association. Rents' share of store and merchant turnover also continues to increase, it notes, eating up more and more of their margin.
The fact that many people still manage is due to the current system of temporary rent discounts, which has become more common, but it is a phenomenon that Svensk handel is opposed to.
"It becomes difficult to know what costs you have going forward for the store, which in turn makes it difficult to know if you dare to invest further in your business," says Sofia Larsen.
She advises store owners and merchants to have a dialogue and discussion with their local property owner about rent levels.
