The suspected man is a 25-year-old Moscow resident, who last year fought in the Russian-occupied city of Izium, among other places. Right now, in his absence, he is being investigated by Ukrainian police for the attempted murder of a civilian, something that falls under war crimes in Ukraine's criminal code.
The entire sequence of events was filmed from a drone by Ukrainian soldiers and the Ukrainian police have managed to gather more evidence, including through a crime scene investigation conducted by the Kharkiv police after Izium was freed in September. It has also been possible to find the suspected commander's social media as well as recorded two conversations as he confesses to the crime, first to his wife and then to his friend.
