The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, the plug-in hybrid variant of the Japanese model, has passed with honor the tests of the prestigious Euro NCAP, the European safety program responsible for assessing the safety of vehicles on the market through a star scale, up to a maximum of five. The SUV has achieved outstanding results in all four categories assessed. Specifically, 91% in adult occupants, 87% in child occupants, 73% in safety assistance and 68% in vulnerable road users, that is, pedestrian protection.

In this way, Mazda reinforces with facts one of its main objectives: to eliminate traffic accidents in the society of the future. The brand works tirelessly to ensure that its models contribute to this through innovation, the development of technology generation after generation and the implementation of new safety assistants. Of course, without compromising the pleasure of driving.

And not only that! The Mazda MX-30 has obtained the highest score in both side impact tests and crash tests based on children aged 6 and 10, in the front and side impact variants. These results are particularly commendable, as three years ago the agency introduced stricter crash tests, placing greater emphasis on occupant protection, post-collision protection and advanced driver assistance technologies.

The keys to success

To wonder how Mazda has achieved such an outstanding score is the most logical thing to do. However, the Japanese brand is clear about the answer and divides it into three factors. First, i-Activsense safety technologies, which help drivers identify potential risks and reduce the chance of injury or damage. Secondly, the high level of pedestrian protection, which mitigates the consequences of any incident with vulnerable road users; and, finally, the advances of the Skyactiv-Vehice Architecture, which translates into a body of high rigidity, with capacity to absorb impacts, but at the same time light.

50 years of experience in rotary engine

Talking about the rotary engine is talking about Mazda. And the RX-8, a sports car that marked a before and after not only in the brand but also in the automotive industry, has been one of its best representatives. This model stood out for its design, performance and technology. In fact, one of the most striking elements of the MX-30 are its freestyle doors, inspired by the model launched in 2003.

The Mazda MX-30 plug-in hybrid brings together the best of both worlds. On the one hand, it mounts a 17.8 kWh battery that provides a 100% electric range of 85 kilometers, together with a novel rotary gasoline engine of 830 cubic centimeters and a single rotor, which is used as an electricity generator to cover longer distances without worrying about the autonomy or the charge of the battery.

In fact, there is no mechanical connection between the rotary engine and the wheels. It only acts as a generator and it is the electric motor that drives the vehicle at all times, in order to enjoy a full electric experience. This system develops 170 hp and 260 Nm of torque.

Thanks to the combination of the battery and a 50-litre fuel tank, the total range of the Mazda MX-30 is 680 kilometres. This is one of the best figures in the segment that, in addition, adds an enviable environmental performance: it approves WLTP CO2 emissions of only 21 g / km.
