The Turkish army distributed Suhoor meals inside shelters housing hundreds of people affected by the earthquake that struck the south of the country on February 6, and the move was liked by followers who left comments wishing those affected a generous Ramadan.

The official account of the Ministry of Defence broadcast a video of soldiers serving suhoor meals to be distributed to fasting people affected by the earthquake.

Turkish soldiers served hot soup and food to fasting people just before the dawn call to prayer on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Residents of the Qatari-Turkish Prefabricated Homes Center in Antakya, Hatay province, were encouraged to eat Suhoor.

The center is home to nearly 1500,<> people, where feelings of joy overshadowed the fasting people by Ramadan, and sadness for the separation of their loved ones who died under the rubble of the earthquake.

Earthquake survivor Fatemeh Abbas Ugulari, 66, told Anadolu Agency that authorities provided her with transportation and accommodation in the centre of prefabricated houses after she survived the quake.

Hajja Fatima explained that she ate the suhoor meal, hoping for the arrival of the blessed Ramadan, and hoping that this month will bring with it "the departure of sorrows."

For his part, Mohammed Sareb said that Suhoor carries beautiful spiritual feelings, despite the anguish of parting loved ones after the earthquake.

Residents of the rest of the shelters on floating ships and in tents ate suhoor meals, amid the same scenes of joy mixed with sadness.

On February 6, an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed by another measuring 7.6, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks.

This twin quake hit areas in these two neighboring countries, causing massive destruction and extensive loss of life and property.
