Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud agreed with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to hold a bilateral meeting soon "to pave the way for the reopening of embassies and consulates between the two countries."

This came during a phone call between the two ministers during which they exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

On January 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran announced the resumption of diplomatic relations and the reopening of embassies within two months, following Chinese-sponsored talks in Beijing, according to a joint statement by the three countries.

This agreement came after Beijing hosted – from the sixth to the tenth of March – Saudi-Iranian talks "in response to an initiative by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and in agreement with the leaderships of the Kingdom and the Republic of Iran and the desire of each to resolve differences," according to the tripartite statement.

Before that, Riyadh and Tehran began direct talks since 2021, in an attempt to contain the tensions and estrangement that has been going on for 7 years, and the two sides held last April the fifth round of their negotiations in Iraq.
