As of July last year, families with children on housing allowance have received a temporary supplementary allowance. In December last year, the grant was extended until June 30, 2023. Now the government and the Sweden Democrats are announcing that they want to extend the supplementary subsidy further, until December 31.

Max 2,100 SEK

In addition, the allowance will be increased – from 25 per cent to 40 per cent of the preliminary housing allowance.

"If you calculate it into kronor and pennies, it means that the maximum can go from today's extra supplement of SEK 1,325 per month to being able to amount to SEK 2,100 per month," says Ebba Busch.

The supplementary allowance is added to the amount usually received in housing allowance each month and is paid automatically to those on housing benefit.

The increase and extension of the grant is estimated to cost SEK 720 million.
