The wolves in Sjundareviret move between Sörmland County and Stockholm County. According to the Center Party, they want, among other things, to get rid of the wolves because they harm animals in the agricultural industry, enter densely populated areas and threaten biodiversity.

'Out of touch with reality'

"The fact that the entire territory should be phased out in order to protect biodiversity is both tragic and out of touch with reality. I think wolves are an important part of biodiversity, says Gustav Edman (MP) group leader of the Green Party Gnesta.

Håkan Ekstrand (C) explains that they are referring to the biodiversity in the pastures and that it can be affected if animals such as sheep and cattle are affected by wolf attacks.

"If we can't have animal production in an area, the natural pastures will grow again.

Generous contributions

However, what Håkan Ekstrand (C) and Gustav Edman (MP) agree on is that there should be culling of those wolves that cause harm or have an indiscriminate behavior.

But Gustav Edman (MP) wants us humans to learn to live with wolves and thinks that the state must therefore be generous with support for those who have domestic animals in areas with wolves.

"This may involve grants for measures that prevent predator attacks or financial compensation for damage that occurs when domestic animals are attacked.

Large areas to protect

But Håkan Ekstrand (C) does not think it is sustainable to try to keep the wolf out.

"These predator fences are not one hundred percent, nor is it economically justifiable to fence in such large areas as it would be.
