Tokyo, 3 Mar (ZXS) -- Wu Jianghao, China's new ambassador to Japan, arrived in Japan on 21 March to take up his new post.

In an interview with Chinese and Japanese media at the airport, Wu Jianghao said that the important mission of this assignment is to maintain and develop healthy and stable Sino-Japanese relations. China and Japan can sail with water and reeds. In the long river of history, the two peoples have learned from each other, and the relations between the two countries have also experienced ups and downs. In the new era, as eternal neighbors, we should learn from history, create the future together, and coexist peacefully and cooperate with each other. We must adhere to the principles established in the four political documents of China and Japan, follow the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, never forget our original intention, eliminate interference, and promote the healthy operation of China-Japan relations on the right track.

Wu Jianghao said: Sino-Japanese pragmatic cooperation is huge, has a deep foundation, and has broad prospects. "Decoupling and breaking the chain" and "camp confrontation" do not conform to the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples, and run counter to history and the trend of the times. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has sounded the clarion call for a new journey of Chinese-style modernization, and major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and China's high-quality opening up to the outside world have pressed the "accelerator button", which will certainly provide new opportunities and inject new impetus into China-Japan exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The two sides should enhance the level of cooperation, expand common interests, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.

Wu Jianghao stressed that as major countries in the region and the world's second and third largest economies, China and Japan jointly shoulder the important responsibility of maintaining regional peace and stability. The two sides should uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, resist the "cold war" mentality and oppose conflict and confrontation.

Wu Jianghao said that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and standing at a new historical starting point, we hope to work with Japan to revisit the spirit of the treaty, fulfill its treaty obligations, and jointly promote peaceful development, so as to safeguard the correct direction of China-Japan relations and inject more positive energy into the turbulent world.

Wu Jianghao said: At an important juncture of a century of changes and historical evolution, as the 13th Chinese ambassador to Japan, I have sincere expectations for safeguarding and developing Sino-Japanese relations, will go all out to perform my duties, and work hard and unremitting efforts with people of insight from all walks of life in Japan to jointly open up bright prospects for Sino-Japanese relations in the new era.
