Donald Trump is suspected of campaign finance violations in connection with a $130,000 payout to actor Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election campaign.

The payment is alleged to have been made for Daniels to keep quiet about the fact that they had a relationship — something Trump himself denies.

Trump has urged his supporters on his social media channel Truth Social to demonstrate and retake the country in connection with the arrest.

Being investigated for multiple crimes

But according to SVT's US correspondent Fouad Youcefi, there is little evidence that Trump will be arrested on Tuesday.

"But charges will probably be brought.

Alongside the campaign finance crime, Trump is being investigated for a range of other, and more serious, crimes.

These include involvement in the storming of the Capitol, classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, and the fact that after the 2020 election he asked an official to find the roughly 11,000 votes he claimed were "missing" for him to win the election in Gerogia.

Can use political

According to Fouad Youcefi, it is not known exactly what the investigation will show.

- It looks like it's going to be more of a misdemeanor than a serious crime, and Trump may use that politically.

Several prominent Republicans, such as House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy and former Vice President Mike Pence, have criticized the investigation with words like "abuse of power" and accused it of being politically motivated.
