Increased interest in heliskiing – now there is a call for regulation in the mountains

In recent years, interest in being transported out into the mountains by helicopter in search of the perfect ski ride has increased.

But tourism is not uncontroversial. Both the tourism industry and reindeer husbandry in the Kiruna mountains are increasingly disturbing to the increasing number of helicopter lifts. In addition, it puts pressure on sensitive natural areas.

Is today unregulated

There, the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten now wants the government to urgently investigate how the conditions for helicopter skiing can be regulated. Today, in practice, it is unregulated.

"The County Administrative Board is following developments but has no means of acting because there is no legislation for this type of activity. It is also our task to inform the government about what is happening in the county and whether action needs to be taken. Therefore, we are now drawing the government's attention to the problem, says County Governor Lotta Finstorp.
