Tens of thousands of employees at 150 universities in the United Kingdom began a three-day strike on Monday to demand higher wages and better working conditions and pensions amid the wave of high prices.

The Union of University and College Employees said the repercussions of the strike would be mild on students, with some universities resorting to extending or rescheduling classes.

This comes at a time when the government is trying to reach a compromise to end strikes in several sectors of the public sector, especially with nurses and teachers.

Last week, unions representing more than a million healthcare workers announced they had reached an agreement with the government to resolve months of strikes to raise wages.

Britain is witnessing an escalating wave of wage strikes, with almost every aspect of daily life affected as inflation rose to a 40-year high of 11.1% in October 2022, before falling in January to 10.1%.
