Bryn Hargreaves, who played in the Super League for Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Bradford Bulls, was declared missing after failing to return to work and showing no sign of life. The Daily Mail reports the body was found in a wooded area near the home of Hargreaves, who moved to the United States in 2013 after retiring from rugby in 2012.
At the time of his disappearance, Bryn, 37, was working as an oil and gas pipeline safety inspector and was living alone after his divorce from Amy Lombardo two years earlier. His family said he had "isolated" during the pandemic and may have returned to Britain. The last time they spoke to him, on Jan. 3, "he seemed fine."
Despite this, his brother confessed to The Mirror that he handled the possibility that it had been a suicide: "Of course, it is one of my fears. He had mental health issues and severe back pain from a car accident he had in December. The police thought he had hurt himself and I think that's a possibility."
