The clip of global star Bruce Willis celebrating his 68th birthday - on Monday - among his family members was widely popular across the platforms, with many expressing their sympathy and joy for his happy appearance during the celebration.

Members of Willis' family — including his wife Emma Hemming and his children and his ex-wife Demi Moore, who used to be there on those occasions — celebrated Bruce at home, and he appeared happily with them despite his suffering.

Bruce extinguished his birthday candle, seemed aware of what was going on around him, and was interacting with everyone during the celebration despite his heavy movement.

Demi wrote on her Twitter account, "Happy birthday Bruce, so happy that we were able to celebrate you today, I love you and your family, thank you all for the love and warm wishes, we all felt them."

Happy birthday, BW! So glad we could celebrate you today. Love you and love our family.

A different celebration

What made the celebration different this time like any year ago was Bruce's deteriorating condition over the past year until he was diagnosed in February this year with frontotemporal dementia, a disease for which there is still no cure and can result in difficulty understanding certain words, memory loss, and more.

This disease was preceded by several health crises for Willis, the worst of which was aphasia at the beginning of last year, and his family announced his retirement and revealed the full details of his mental state at the time, which made thousands of his fans around the world sympathize and react to every appearance of him, especially if it was to celebrate his birthday.

With Demi posting the video, which racked up more than 10 million views in less than a day, many around the world tweeted congratulating Willis on his birthday and wishing him well.

Blogger Fanny Kyoga tweeted: "If you love this man and watch all his movies and read about his illness story and then watch it, surely you can only be happy."

Cinematographer and filmmaker Oftense Moss tweeted: "It's sad to see him like this, what a legend, Bruce!"

One blogger also commented on Demi Moore's stance and wrote, "Happy birthday to Bruce Willis, thank you Demi for the tweet as it shows the world what it can be like to live with dementia, celebrate life's moments and share love despite the unknown, love is the best thing, and we love you too, Bruce."

A year ago, Bruce Willis' family published a statement confirming the international star's retirement from acting due to aphasia.

His wife, Emma, said on her official Instagram page: "To fans of Bruce Willis, we, his family, wanted to let you know that your beloved star has some health issues."

Illness and repercussions

According to the Mayo Clinic, aphasia is a disease that prevents the ability to communicate and can affect the ability to speak, write and understand language orally and in writing, and this condition "usually occurs suddenly after a stroke or head injury, but can also come gradually from a slow-growing brain tumor or a disease that causes gradual and permanent damage (degenerative)."

Bruce Willis is best known for his long career in Hollywood, where he starred in several films, such as Die Hard and Armageddon.

He has also starred in several other films such as Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element, The Sixth Sense, 12 Monkeys and Sin City, and most recently starred in the 12 thriller Death Wish.
