• 2018 Spain, at number 36, falls two places in the world ranking of happiness, which Finland wins

The World Happiness Index places Finland in the lead again, for the sixth consecutive year, and relegates Spain to 32nd place, which represents a new decline in an annual study prepared by the Gallup Institute and that examines on this occasion the effects on the general perception of issues such as the war in Ukraine, the rising cost of living or the COVID-19 pandemic, among other factors.

Finland repeats at the head of this particular list, which sees the light coinciding with the International Day of Happiness, with a score of 7,804 obtained from concrete analyses on social support, income, health, freedom, generosity and absence of corruption, according to an analysis promoted by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Experts agree that the countries considered happiest in the world have responded with considerable resilience to recent challenges, the effects of which would have been felt in areas with a lower level of development. Along with Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand complete the top ten on the list.

On the opposite side are Afghanistan -with a score of 1,859-, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana and Malawi, while in Latin America, the heads and tails are put by Costa Rica, in position 23, and Venezuela, which does not appear until number 88.

Spain – which obtains a 6,436 after appearing with a 6,476 in the report of a year ago – appears thirty-second, just behind Estonia and slightly above Italy.
