- For me, not searching for him was never an option. Even as a child, I decided to find him. He has to come back," says Uppsala resident Johanna Wallin, who has now described the search for her father in a book.

When she was 18, she moved to England hoping to find her father – and there began her 40-year hunt to find him. But she realized pretty quickly that it wasn't going to be easy.

Got help

"I had already understood earlier that much of what my father had told me about himself was probably not true. The more I searched and the more I dug, the clearer it became that I wasn't getting anywhere. Because this person didn't exist," Wallin says.

One day in the fall of 2021, Johanna Wallin googled her father's name and got a new hit, it led her to a thread on the internet forum Flashback. Through that thread and the people behind it, she got help in her search. After a few months of intense searching, she finally found her father – but it turned out to be too late.
