On Thursday, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto travelled to Turkey to discuss the NATO issue. On Friday, Turkish President Erdogan announced at a joint press conference with Niinistö that Turkey is ready to approve Finland's NATO application.

On the other hand, he does not think that Sweden has lived up to the tripartite agreement that the nations concluded in Madrid last year and Turkey therefore does not want to ratify the Swedish application yet.

Erdogan, among other things, accused Sweden of "opening its arms to terrorism."

Hungary is also waiting with Sweden

In addition to Turkey, only Hungary has still not ratified Finland's and Sweden's NATO applications. On Friday, the leading party in Hungary, Fidesz, told Reuters that it will support Finland's application in a parliamentary vote on March 27. At the same time, the decision on Sweden is postponed.

Tobias Billström has now called a press conference in connection with the NATO process.
