The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Friday the death of a young man after being shot by Israeli occupation soldiers at the northern entrance to the city of Al-Bireh (center) of the West Bank.

The ministry said that the General Authority for Civil Affairs, the official contact with Israel, informed it of the death of Yazan Omar Jamil Khasib, 23, after he was shot by the occupation at the northern entrance to the city of Al-Bireh. The ministry did not give further details of the incident.

The Israeli occupation soldiers had shot Khasib under the pretext that he was trying to carry out a stabbing attack near the settlement and the Beit El checkpoint, north of Ramallah.

Israeli Army Radio reported that a Palestinian youth grabbed a knife and tried to stab a soldier near the military checkpoint at the settlement, shooting and wounding him but causing no injuries.

The occupying forces closed the northern entrance to Ramallah in both directions following the incident, while the occupation pushed military reinforcements to the area.

Earlier on Friday, dozens of Palestinians were injured by bullets and gas suffocation as the Israeli army dispersed anti-settlement activities in several West Bank governorates.

For several months, the Israeli army has been carrying out attacks in the northern West Bank, concentrated in the cities of Nablus and Jenin, under the pretext of pursuing wanted persons, usually accompanied by confrontations between the two sides and exchanges of fire.

Since the beginning of 2023, clashes have escalated in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the death of 88 Palestinians and the death of 14 Israelis in separate operations.
