Until June 2023, the Arab World Institute is hosting an exhibition dedicated to ancient textiles from Uzbekistan. It is entitled: "On the roads of Samarkand. Wonders of silk and gold." Visitors to the exhibition can discover, for the first time, unique historical artifacts never seen outside Uzbekistan.

At the IFTM tourism fair in Paris last September, Uzbekistan's ambassador to France, Sardor Rustambaev, said his country was "a hidden gem of Central Asia." "Everyone knows the Great Silk Road and most people know the cities of Samarkand or Bukhara. However, few of them know that they are located in modern Uzbekistan."

The exhibition presents nearly 300 original pieces on an area of more than 1,100 m², including jewelry, precious objects and embroidery, representative of the treasures of ancient Uzbekistan.

Earlier this year, another exhibition titled "The Splendours of Uzbekistan's Oases" was held at the Louvre. It presented the Central Asian country as a crossroads of civilizations and a cornerstone of the ancient Silk Road.

For Rustambaev, Uzbek cities make the country a must on the Asian continent: "Samarkand is an ancient civilization almost three thousand years old, the same age as Rome. We have always been at the crossroads of different civilizations and nations, and as part of the Great Silk Road, the country has served as a bridge between East and West, between North and South."

Uzbekistan is exhibiting its unique culture and history for the first time to the French public, as well as to thousands of international visitors, eager to unravel the mysteries of the Silk Road.
