Skellefteå Kraft made a record profit in 2022 of over SEK 2 billion. Part of that is the extremely high electricity prices. Now the Moderates in Skellefteå want the company to pay back the electricity network fees to local customers in Skellefteå municipality.

"We see that many households are having a tough time today with electricity prices, food costs, interest rates and more. And then we think it is only right that the residents get to share in the large profits that this company makes, says opposition councillor Andreas Löwenhöök (M).

Most bother to those who consume the most

The Moderates write in a press release that support is especially important for those families who live on the margins. But it is farms and homeowners and those who consume the most who can receive the greatest support under the proposal. Not those who live in rental apartments.

"We still believe that this is the fairest proposal if you do not want to reduce taxes for everyone. But we do not believe that it is possible to get a majority to do this, says Andreas Löwenhöök (M).

Skellefteå Kraft awaits

The proposal is supported by (KD) and (L) in Skellefteå and, according to the proposal, the electricity support will be paid to the households that are both electricity network and electricity trading customers in Skellefteå Kraft.

Skellefteå Kraft tells SVT that they are not taking a position on the proposal but are awaiting any political decisions.

– We relate to the ownership directives we receive, says David Forsström, responsible for public affairs at Skellefteå Kraft.
