This was announced by the Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu.

"The bill was approved in the second reading by votes of 58 deputies. Congratulations!" — quotes him RIA Novosti.

The agency notes that the opposition intends to appeal the decision of the ruling majority in the Constitutional Court.

As specified, the Constitutional Court of Moldova in 2013 decided that the state language in the republic is Romanian, but the country's constitution states that the state language is Moldovan.

According to the Constitutional Court, the text of the Declaration of Independence of Moldova, in which Romanian is called the state language, prevails over the constitution of the republic.

Deputies of the parliamentary Bloc of Communists and Socialists of Moldova intend to seek the complete abolition of the bill on renaming the state language to Romanian.
