A Jordanian family mourned the death of their son, who traveled to the United States to earn a living, as he lost his life as a result of a shooting in Washington, D.C., facing the same fate that haunts the American street with regard to gun violence.

Hamza Abu Halawa had planned to live in the United States with his young family of his wife and twin 3-year-old daughters, who were due to join him in late March.

But the gunshots that ended his life last Sunday turned his family's lives upside down and left a wave of grief and shock.

Hamza, 32, a driver for a U.S. delivery company belonging to the family of a close friend, was carrying customers in a Cadillac Escalade SUV southeast of Washington on Sunday night when he fell victim to the shooting.

While driving that night on Capitol Hill in Washington, another car chased him targeting the passengers who were with him, according to his family's probabilities, and began shooting at the car.

Hunt and death

According to US sources, the chase continued along about 6 streets in an attempt by the driver Hamza to escape from the car that continued to chase him, before he collided with other cars and was shot.

Abu Halawa died in hospital after sustaining serious injuries, while passenger Othaniel Gaither, 34, died and the second passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim's cousin, Osama Halawa, said his family learned of Hamza's car accident through their employer's contact, and the family turned to American news sources to find out more.

Osama said in televised remarks: "We are going through a difficult time. We now have a family gathering and we all join in praying for the deceased, I try to be strong but I am very sad."

The family stated that Hamza's parents and wife were deeply shocked after receiving the news of his death, and had to be taken to hospital.

US streets are more dangerous than many battlefronts around the world!
Own up to it, folks!!

People freely roaming around with rifles and machine guns defined the militia of Saddam, Gaddafi, Taliban, and Al Shabab !!!

Dream and shock

In a separate television interview, Osama said, "Hamza dreamed of going to America to work and living the American dream for about 15 years, since we were in school. He was a very respectable man and all he wanted was a decent life for his family and children."

Hamza's couple, Ghalia Bitar and Islam Gohar, said they had no idea what had happened until midnight when they learned that one of their cars had been involved in an accident, and Abu Halawa was the only driver who did not respond to their calls.

The couple reported that Hamza's family was about to move from Jordan to the United States after Hamza was able to raise enough money to support them.

Sadness and obituary

Hamza was outraged on social media, with respondents outraged by the broad gun laws in the United States that pave the way for shootings.

Tweeter Nicholas Argy commented, "He was pursuing the American dream, but he found the American nightmare."

Another tweeted it: "The streets of the United States are more dangerous than many of the world's battlefronts! Be convinced of that, guys."

"Cold-blooded execution in a country of bullying without deterrence according to their culture and upbringing. Unfortunately, you find those who defend them and describe their country as a country of security, safety, prosperity, understanding, culture, freedom and democracy. God suffices me and yes the agent."

Qasim Mohammed al-Bakr wrote, "I did not think for a moment about going to America, but I remember being stung by a chill when someone invited me to travel there. America is a material civilization that crushes the soul, America is the biggest hotbed that drains, steals and swallows people, and the person there turns into just something gasping for life gains."

"May God have mercy on this young Jordanian man who went after a dream that ended with his death. A murder we read and hear about a lot there in the nightmare-ridden land of American Dream."
