In February, inflation landed at 9.4 percent according to figures from Statistics Sweden and it is mainly rising food prices that are driving up the figures. Food prices rose by 2.8 percent and overall have increased by 22.1 percent over the past six months.

"We have to go back to 1951 to find the last twelve-month period," says John Eliasson, price statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Increased in working hours

Inflation means that the money in norrbotten residents' accounts is decreasing in value and more and more people are finding it more difficult to make ends meet.

The Luleå residents that SVT Norrbotten has talked to have, among other things, been forced to increase their working hours, stop buying clothes and cycle to work.
