Alphabet, the owner of Google, revealed on Tuesday a set of artificial intelligence (AI) tools used in email, joint collaboration tools and cloud software, clearly targeting its new competitor in this field Microsoft (Microsoft), according to a report published by Reuters.

Alphabet said its new tool, called the Magic Wand, which it included in its popular Google Docs show, is able to craft a marketing blog, training plan or other text and then revise its tone, an official told reporters during the presentation.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has raised expectations about its upcoming event on Thursday on how to "reinvent productivity with artificial intelligence," which is expected to introduce a new processor for the popular text program Word.

Alphabet also said its AI will be able to summarize groups of messages in Gmail, craft presentations, develop ways to communicate with customers and take meeting notes.

All of this will be part of upgrading its document software to Google Workspace, a suite of products with billions of users through free and paid accounts.

These developments reflect how ChatGPT launched a major race among Silicon Valley tech companies to equip their products with so-called generative artificial intelligence that learns from past data how to create content anew.

Microsoft, Alphabet and others are investing billions of dollars to build and deploy the technology, hoping to get a bigger share in the business.

Thomas Corian, CEO of Google Cloud, said at a press briefing, "At this stage of developing our tools, humans are being supported by collaboration with artificial intelligence that works in real time."

Alphabet is giving its authorized test users access to the new WorkSpace tools, ahead of a wider launch.

Corian declined to say how much Workspace would cost with the new tools for businesses or consumers.

Google has also unveiled a range of generating AI tools for its cloud computing customers, for example PaLM, one of the most powerful "large language models" that create texts that are very similar to human production.

AI marketing products

In another example of enterprise software, Google showed how better customer service chatbots capable of generating images and text can be built. A promotional video showed that the chatbot could integrate with the payments system so a shopper could buy the chair.

Google aims to "transform" its AI the way marketers, lawyers, scientists and educators work, according to the video.

The company, based in Mountain View, California, announced a partnership with high-level AI research lab Midjourney to provide cloud infrastructure.

Responsible AI

Microsoft's strategy to roll out its generative AI has so far surpassed Alphabet, which fears societal harm, as well as damaging its reputation as a reliable source of information, such programs remain vulnerable to inaccurate responses known as "hallucinations."

A mistake made by Alphabet's chat robot Bard during a demo last month contributed to a $100 billion drop in its market value. Although Microsoft experienced the same situation when Bing's Chatbot declared his love for one user and made threats to others, the impact of these events on the company was not as big as what Google suffered with a "cold" show.

Kurian said Google remains "deeply committed to responsible AI," giving controls to customers and reviewing the proper use of its products. Microsoft has also added preventive measures to its research program.
