It is after two major snowfalls that the damage occurred, one in November and the latest at the end of last week. The company Flixtrain tells Aftonbladet that the damage has led to them having to cancel the two departures they run between Stockholm and Gothenburg next week.

– We have asked the Swedish Transport Administration to escalate rail maintenance so that we can prevent future damage. We hope to restore some of the traffic by next week. The whole thing is very unfortunate, writes Kajsa Ekelund, press officer at Flixtrain in an email to SVT.

"We are now taking a closer look at what this is due to, but it seems that it is cocci of snow and ice that pull up macadam that scratch the locomotives from below," says Bengt Olsson.

High-speed section affected

The section where the trains have been damaged is a high-speed section where 200 km/h is allowed. The Swedish Transport Administration is now investigating what has caused what.

"It should only be Flixtrain that has cancelled departures," says Bengt Olsson.

Snälltåget operates on the route Malmö – Stockholm while MTR and Flixtrain run Gothenburg – Stockholm.
