The aspirants perceived that they were ordered to be given heightened readiness, which led to them taking out the weapons. They have testified that they felt stressed when they stopped the "suspect" car. One of them has assessed that he likely would have shot the colleague in the leg if a shot had been fired.

The outside officer and instructor are now reported to the Personnel Responsibility Board for the incident. The police region believes converted weapons should instead have been used in the exercise, Siren news agency said.
