Two brothers in their 20s are suspected of killing their mother and seriously injuring her boyfriend last July.

They have been in custody since last summer and on Wednesday the trial against the two brothers begins.

As recently as three days before she died, the woman must have told social services about threats from relatives, according to information in the preliminary investigation.

A relative says in questioning that the mother applied for but was denied sheltered housing.

It also appears from the social services' information in the preliminary investigation that sheltered housing came up during a meeting between the mother and the social services, in the days before she died.

Reviews working methods

However, no formal application for sheltered accommodation has been made in the current case, according to Christina Alvelin, director of administration at the Hisingen social administration.

The social services do not comment on other information in the police investigation about threats and that talks about sheltered housing should have been discussed with the social services.

But serious events generally lead to social services reviewing their routines, she says.

- This is an extremely tragic case.

I think that it is not just the social services in Gothenburg or the surrounding municipalities, but I think that all social services will look over and see if we can get better at working and reaching out and helping people who are vulnerable.

300 interrogations during the investigation

After a long investigation with around 300 interviews, twelve days of negotiations are now expected in the Gothenburg District Court.

Several witnesses are called, including relatives of the deceased woman and her boyfriend.

As evidence, the prosecutor has, among other things, visualizations of the car's route and live broadcasts and comments in social media.

The younger brother denies crime while the older one denies murder, attempted murder and honor motive, but makes some concessions.

A further four relatives are also on trial, including for aggravated protection of a criminal and illegal threats.

They also deny any crime.
