The financial culture brings together the necessary knowledge to make better decisions about everything related to our personal economy. Similarly, knowing some keys about cybersecurity and online banking in our digitized world will allow us to navigate with security and confidence. Paying attention todetails, using common sense and being prudent are just some of the guidelines to keep in mind. Thus, in this new chapter of Mucho por Hacer, Xavier Puig, professor of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona School of Management, explains the keys of cyber experts to navigate calmly and enjoy all the advantages offered by the digital world.

Haste is not good: the importance of paying attention to details and common sense

Popular wisdom has warned since time immemorial: haste is not good advice. Urgency can lead us to lower our guard and act without reflecting on the possible consequences. Before an email, an SMS or a call from our bank, Xavier clearly warns that "they will NEVER ask for confidential data or passwords in that way. If we receive a message claiming them, be suspicious!" Therefore, we should never provide our access codes, personal or bank details in these ways.

Looking at the details carefully will also help us. For example, in case of receiving an email from the bank, we should always check the sender carefully. Sometimes, a letter or part of the email address is changed. You also have to observe the name or that the associated domain is that of our bank. "We must not lower our guard, because sometimes there are frauds in which it totally impersonates the sender," warns the expert.

Xavier Puig, professor of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona School of Management, during his meeting with journalist Helena Resano.

Trusting our intuition and common sense will always put us on the right side. Professor Xavier Puig is also clear in this regard: "Although apparently it is a legitimate message, we must think: is what they are asking me normal?" If we doubt, prudence is the best choice. Avoiding any reply or clicking on that link also either by mail or SMS is the right way to go; Nor should we ever download any attachments. And to clear that question that is posed to us, we will call the bank in person or we will go in person.

Making these guidelines a habit will allow us to use the internet safely, in order to carry out our banking operations in this environment with total confidence.

In the same way, gaining confidence and being cautious are two of the tricks that El Mago Pop uses in his shows followed by the public around the world. Their success is a combination of talent, attention to detail and anticipating mistakes. "An airplane cannot fail. A game of magic, either," he says. You can watch El Mago Pop's full interview here.

Sustainable banking

CaixaBank's financial culture programme, Mucho por hacer, brings together leaders from different fields, such as culture, sport or gastronomy, among others, to highlight from their personal experience the importance of financial concepts such as entrepreneurship, savings or investment. Personalities such as Alexia Putellas, Antonio Banderas, Miguel Ángel Muñoz or Pablo López have already passed through the program. These experiences are complemented by the help of a financial expert, who explains in detail key concepts on the different financial topics.

As a sustainable bank, CaixaBank promotes, in person and online, financial knowledge through neutral, independent and quality information, in order to help society in making responsible decisions about the personal and family economy. Together with the Mucho por hacer programme, CaixaBank has created a Hub, through which it disseminates all the basic financial concepts linked to the most frequent vital projects of the population. All the face-to-face activities to improve the knowledge of financial education in Spain that the entity has historically promoted have been complemented with digital content and audiovisual resources, which can be accessed for free through caixabank.es/muchoporhacer, located within the entity's global portal.
