According to the publication, the consequences of such a nuclear strike will be devastating for the kingdom.

"If Russia launched the Poseidon from its doomsday submarine and the torpedo exploded, for example, at the mouth of the Thames, the tidal wave would destroy London," the journalists said in a statement that refers to experts.

The authors also spoke with the academician of the University of Leicester and an expert on nuclear weapons, Professor Andrew Footer, who noted that as a result of such an attack, "millions of people" could die.

"Perhaps the Thames will remain irradiated, but there will be so few people left alive in central London that it will no longer matter much," he said.

At the same time, a security expert from King's College London, Dr. Rod Thornton, argues that the torpedo is capable of destroying any cities close to the site of the explosion, "be it London or New York in the United States."

According to his estimates, the same wave from such a strike could "destroy everyone in the ports of the English Channel in the UK and France – and perhaps even in Rotterdam."

In January, it became known that the first ammunition of nuclear torpedoes "Poseidon" for the nuclear submarine of special purpose "Belgorod" was made.
