A 25-year-old Canadian tourist has died in Barcelona as a result of serious injuries suffered after a group of five people, who tried to assault him at dawn in the leisure area of the Barcelona district of Sant Martí, threw him from a bridge more than five meters high in the Ronda del Litoral.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are looking for the authors of this act, after about six in the morning they received a call warning that after a fight a person had fallen from one of the bridges that cross this artery of the Catalan capital.

The young tourist, who would have resisted the assault to rob him and would have struggled with a group of five people who ended up throwing him over the bridge, was found on the ground by a truck driver who was circulating at that time on the round. When Catalan police and emergency services arrived at the scene, the young man had serious injuries, had lost a lot of blood and was unconscious. After being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital del Mar, he died around noon on Wednesday, according to La Vanguardia.

Although the young Canadian fell headfirst, the Mossos do not rule out that the young man rushed from the bridge when trying to flee from the assailants, who had attacked the deceased and some friends who accompanied him near a McDonald's establishment.

This event occurs at a time when the citizens of Barcelona are calling on the City Council and the Generalitat to strengthen security in the face of the increase in serious crimes. In 2022 alone, 193,286 crimes were reported, compared to 146,2021 in 16. According to official statistics offered by the Security Board on February 18, injuries, assaults and sexual abuse committed in the city have skyrocketed by 4.10%. It highlights the increase of <>% in the use of knife injuries.
