China News Service, March 14 (Xinhua) According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean National Security Office Director Kim Sung-han said at a press conference at the Presidential Palace on the 14th that President Yoon Seok-yue will visit Japan from 16 to 17 to hold a summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

According to reports, this is the first time a South Korean president has visited Japan in four years since then South Korean President Moon Jae-in visited Osaka in June 2019 to attend the G20 leaders' meeting.

Kim Sung-han said that the resumption of bilateral summit visits between South Korea and Japan, which had been interrupted for 12 years, is expected to be an important milestone in the improvement of South Korea-Japan relations.

Considering the tight schedule, this visit to Japan is set as a working visit.

As the first itinerary of his visit to Japan, Yin Xiyue will hold discussions and have lunch with compatriots in Japan.

The leaders of South Korea and Japan will then hold a summit meeting and have dinner together.

Leaders of South Korea and Japan will discuss ways to restore relations between the two countries, including the implementation of the Act on Compensation Claims for Forced Labor Victims of World War II.

Lifting policy barriers such as Japan's export restrictions to South Korea and deepening South Korea-Japan economic cooperation plans will also be topics of discussion.

After the talks, the leaders of the two countries will jointly meet the press to introduce the results of the talks.

At the same time, the leaders of the two countries may also discuss the normalization of the "South Korea-Japan Military Intelligence Protection Agreement" (GSOMIA).

The presidential office stated that although the South Korea-Japan military intelligence agreement is still in operation, its form is not smooth due to the previous government's "stop" and "retain stop" operations.

If the relationship between South Korea and Japan improves, the military agreement between the two countries will naturally be restored.

On the 17th, Yin Xiyue will meet with politicians belonging to the Korea-Japan Parliamentary Alliance and the Korea-Japan Cooperation Committee, and will attend the "Korea-Japan Business Roundtable Conference" and meet with business people.

During this process, Yin Xiyue will meet with Taro Aso, vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party, and Yoshihide Suga, the new chairman of the Japan-Korea Diet Association.

After that, Yin Xiyue will give a speech to Japanese college students and Korean students at Keio University in Japan, and return to South Korea that night.

Mrs. Kim Gun-hee, wife of President Korea, will accompany her on the visit and meet with Mrs. Yuko Kishida, wife of Japanese Prime Minister.

Kim Sung-han said that Yoon Suk-yue's visit to Japan means that South Korea-Japan relations have officially embarked on the road to normalization, breaking the vicious cycle of bilateral relations and creating an important turning point for comprehensively creating an environment for exchanges and cooperation.
