Karlstad City Hall, which was already voted one of the ugliest buildings in the county in 2020, has now received an extension.

According to the Architectural Commission, the extension has made a bland building even more boring and disharmonious.

"Especially valuable"

The existing building is considered "particularly valuable".

It was designed by architect Per Lagergren and was completed in 1962 to be used as a town hall.

The character traits that are considered particularly valuable are the distribution in the facade between brick and glass.

A new building in the district of Haga, where the Salvation Army's old church used to be, was also included in the vote, but that house fared better - or worse depending on how you see it, and ended up in ninth place in the vote with 249 votes.
