Chinanews.com, Xiamen, March 12th (Reporter Li Siyuan) The peach blossoms are shining brightly, and it is another year of spring.

The 12th coincided with Arbor Day, and more than 180 compatriots from both sides of the strait organized by the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Zhi Gong Party, the Siming District Overseas Chinese Federation of Xiamen City, and the Xiamen Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment drove to Xiamen Tonganye Valley to plant dozens of cherry trees.

"This is the first time I have participated in tree planting, and it feels very fresh." Jin Yufeng, a Taiwanese compatriot who came to Xiamen from Kaohsiung to start a business in 2014, put all his energy into digging up the soil with a hoe. With the help of his partners, he successfully planted Cherry tree.

Looking at the saplings that are only one meter high, Jin Yufeng told the reporter with a smile, "Once a tree is planted, it will be ten years old. I hope to have the opportunity to bring my grandchildren over to see the tree my grandfather planted himself."

The sun is warm in spring and the breeze is blowing.

At noon that day, the compatriots on both sides of the strait worked together in groups of three and four with high enthusiasm. With shovels, hoes and other tools in hand, they gradually completed the steps of raising seedlings, cultivating soil, stepping on the ground and watering, and worked together to plant saplings.

It is understood that Arbor Day was initiated by forest scientist Ling Daoyang and others. In 1915, Ching Ming Festival was designated as Arbor Day, and then in 1928, Arbor Day was changed to March 12, the day Sun Yat-sen passed away, to commemorate the sages’ desire for afforestation. The setting has been used by the mainland and Taiwan to this day.

"March 12 is Arbor Day and the anniversary of the death of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. Mr. Sun Yat-sen was the first person in modern history to advocate afforestation. Compatriots on both sides of the strait join hands in planting trees, which is not only to beautify the environment but also to inherit the spirit of the sages." Overseas Chinese Federation of Siming District, Xiamen City Chairman Su Fenghong was busy in the tree planting activity, and she was filled with emotion at the bustling labor scene, "This is a 'spiritual tree' planted by our compatriots on both sides of the strait. In the bright spring, we will plant a beautiful together." (End )
