- It's a habit to pick up the mobile phone and therefore you don't think about doing it.

But the drivers are always aware that it is wrong when we stop them, says traffic police officer Jenny Stigsdotter.

Team since 2018

Since February 1, 2018, it is forbidden to use a mobile phone or other communication equipment if it is held in the hand while driving.

The purpose of the law is to increase safety in traffic, but that purpose has so far not really been achieved, says Jenny Stigsdotter.

- I would not like to claim that the use itself has decreased, the effect is that people have at least become aware.

"Many alarms about wobbly cars"

In 2022, the police in Dalarna issued 96 fines to people who violated the ban.

- We get a lot of alarms about wobbly cars, several times every day, and then you can suspect that it's about mobile phone use, says Jenny Stigsdotter.

Before 2018, it was permitted to use the mobile phone in connection with driving, but only if it did not affect the driving in a dangerous way.
