3 soldiers were injured as a result of an Israeli bombardment that targeted - today, Sunday - locations in central and western Syria, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA), quoting a military source.

"SANA" - quoting a military source - said that Israeli air strikes with missile barrages targeted some points in the countryside of Tartous and Hama, which led to "injuring 3 soldiers and causing some material losses."

The Israeli bombardment was from the direction of northern Lebanon at around 07:15 this morning (04:15 GMT), and SANA clarified that the air defenses of the Syrian regime intercepted the Israeli missiles and shot down some of them.

The official media did not specify the nature of the targeted sites, but the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the targeted areas include sites of pro-Tehran groups and a center for scientific research.

In response to a question about information about Israeli attacks on western Syria, a spokesman for the Israeli army told AFP, "We do not comment on reports in foreign media."

These strikes are the second in a week on Syria, after a prolonged bombing on Monday night at Aleppo International Airport, which put this vital facility out of service for days after it was a major destination for aid planes arriving in the country since the devastating earthquake.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense had reported that the airport was subjected to an Israeli strike that put it out of service, without announcing any deaths.

However, the Syrian Observatory confirmed that 3 people, including a Syrian officer, were killed by an Israeli missile that landed near the airport.

On February 19, 15 people were killed in an Israeli bombing that targeted a residential neighborhood in the capital, Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Over the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting sites of the regime's army and Iranian and Hezbollah targets, including weapons and ammunition depots in separate areas.

Israel rarely confirms carrying out strikes in Syria, but it repeats that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran's attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
