"Access is denied": why the West does not support an independent investigation into the explosions at Nord Stream

A number of Western states in the UN Security Council do not want to take part in the work on Russia's draft resolution on Nord Stream, which calls on the organization's Secretary General António Guterres to create a commission to investigate pipeline explosions.

Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, stated this in an interview with American journalist Jackson Hinkle on The Dive YouTube channel.

According to the Russian diplomat, the West explains this by saying that they allegedly do not see "any need" for an international trial.

“Investigations are underway in a number of countries: Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

We do not participate in these investigations, not because we do not want to, but because we are being kept out.

We are denied access to any information, we are not allowed to participate in any way, despite the fact that we are an interested party and therefore we must participate in the investigation.

But they (representatives of Western states.

) just write us some letters: they say, we do what we do - do not interfere in your own business, ”said Polyansky.

According to him, in order not to be unfounded, Moscow plans to soon circulate among the members of the UN Security Council correspondence with Denmark, Sweden and Germany regarding the investigation into the explosions at Nord Stream.

“Russia and everyone else has the right to figure out what

actually happened here (at Nord Stream.

After all, this is a diversion of an extremely extraordinary nature, which ... can change international relations for years to come.

If now is the time when it is acceptable to carry out attacks of this magnitude on anyone’s infrastructure projects, then I don’t even know what it can come to in such a terrible time, ”the diplomat emphasized.

As Polyansky said, Russia is in favor of bringing all those responsible for what happened to justice.

In addition, by the end of March, Moscow intends to put to a vote in the UN the text of a resolution related to the situation at Nord Stream.

“I won’t be surprised if Western countries just try to pretend that this is supposedly excessive, that we (Western states.

) don’t need it, that the information is unreliable and so on ... You know how they apply double standards in an unfavorable situation for himself,” the Russian diplomat noted.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Russia's demands for a joint investigation into the Nord Stream terrorist attack were completely ignored by Western countries.

In turn, as Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with RT Arabic, it is obvious for Russia that the responsibility for undermining Nord Stream lies with the United States.

The diplomat called the sabotage "an unprecedented and egregious act of terrorism."

At the same time, according to him, the EU countries "renounced sovereignty" in the issue of undermining the Nord Streams and "just read American political rap."

Recall that in early February, the American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh published an article on the Substack media platform about the undermining of Nord Stream and the involvement of the United States and Norway in the terrorist attack.

According to a journalist citing his sources, the decision to organize the attack was made personally by US President Joe Biden.

The sabotage, according to Hersh, was prepared under the cover of NATO exercises BALTOPS 22 and carried out with the support of the Norwegian Navy.

Later, in an exclusive interview with RT, the journalist stated that the White House was not only not interested in investigating "this story, but they were not even going to refute it."

Recall that earlier, after the publication of Hersh’s materials and Russia’s attempts to achieve an international investigation into the terrorist attacks on pipelines, the American newspaper The New York Times published an article stating that “new intelligence” allegedly indicates the involvement of a certain “pro-Ukrainian group” in undermining Nord Stream.

A similar idea is contained in an article by the German newspaper Die Zeit, whose journalists allegedly write that the German investigation has a new version of what happened, related to Ukraine's involvement in the incident.

In an interview with journalists, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called such publications a coordinated stuffing.

“Obviously, the authors of the attack want to divert attention.

This is clearly a coordinated stuffing in the media, ”he said.

Media materials about the “Ukrainian trace” in the terrorist attacks on pipelines were also commented in Washington.

During the briefing, US State Department spokesman Ned Price, answering a question whether he rejects The New York Times' data that a pro-Ukrainian group could have blown up the pipelines, said that he does not rule out or confirm anything.

At the same time, he called the suspicions of the involvement of the United States government in undermining the Nord Streams ridiculous and suggested not getting ahead of ourselves until the end of the investigation.

After that, the Kremlin said that Moscow still demands that Russia be allowed to investigate the pipeline incident.

In addition, according to the Russian side, it should be transparent and fast.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed on the air of the Big Game program that Moscow would find an answer to the West if the investigation into Nord Stream was blocked.

According to the candidate of political sciences, associate professor of the Academy of Labor and Social Relations Pavel Feldman, it is no coincidence that Western countries, led by the United States, prevent the start of an objective international investigation into the explosions at Nord Stream.

“Many Western states are afraid that within the framework of an international investigation at the UN level, the real culprits of this terrorist attack may be announced, among which there will be such influential Western players that it will simply bring chaos to the entire architecture of the modern transatlantic world.

Feldman explained that the UN has become more of a platform for the declaration of mutual accusations of the parties, rather than a platform for specific actions aimed at "upholding the rule of law on a global scale."

As the analyst noted, “a rather absurd version involving some kind of pro-Ukrainian sabotage group” refers to the attempts of the West to somehow justify itself.

In turn, as Vladimir Shapovalov, deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of Moscow State Pedagogical University, said in a commentary to RT, the leadership of Western countries continues duplicitously ignoring Russia's legitimate demands to participate in the investigation of the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream.

“The fact that Western countries are now preventing Russia from adopting a relevant resolution indicates that they are well aware of what a public and open international investigation will lead to.

However, analysts agree that the US and Norway will not admit their guilt "under any circumstances."
