At least eight people were killed in a shooting at a Jehovah's Witnesses church on Thursday evening in Hamburg, a port metropolis in northern Germany.

The shooter is believed to be among those killed.

The shooting that occurred Thursday evening in a center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hamburg in northern Germany killed eight people, including "obviously" the probable perpetrator of the shots, the police said on Friday in a first official report.

The latter "shot at the participants in a demonstration" organized by the community, the police said, adding that other people had been injured, "some of them seriously".

, the alleged shooter is a former member of Jehovah's Witnesses, in his thirties, and he was armed with a pistol.

The facts took place during a prayer service organized by the community in its center in Hamburg.
