His last time on screen dates back to 2004, in the comedy
Welcome to Mooseport
, since then he has not seen a graphic document of
Gene Hackman
(93).
It was this week when the well-known American actor for starring in
Superman
,
The French Connection or Unforgiven
was seen alone for the first time in more than a decade, eating a chicken sandwich.
The two-time Oscar winner has been recorded and photographed by the
New York Post
putting gas in his car in
Santa Fe (New Mexico)
where he lives.
Minutes later he ordered a chicken sandwich at Wendy's, the well-known American fast food restaurant.
His physical condition is, according to the aforementioned media, "impressive" although "it shows that Hackman is in top form at 93 years of age."
His career is long - it spanned more than six decades - and he won two Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award, two BAFTAs and a Silver Bear.
However, at the beginning of his career, they did not believe in him.
"PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE"
In 1956 Hackman began his acting career.
He joined the historic Pasadena Playhouse School for the Performing Arts in California, where he befriended another aspiring actor, Dustin Hoffman.
Hackman and Hoffman were voted "Least Likely to Succeed", and he wanted to prove them wrong by moving to New York, where he wanted to grow as an actor.
Meanwhile, he worked in food chains.
At a Howard Johnson restaurant he was met by an instructor from the Pasadena Playhouse, who told him that
he "wouldn't amount to anything"
.
The rejection motivated Hackman, who said, according to
Condé Nast,
that "it was psychological warfare."
"I continued to do
whatever it took
to get a job. It was like me against them, and in some ways, unfortunately, I still feel that way. But I think if you're really interested in acting, there's a part of you that enjoys the fight." .
And he got it.
Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood, Oscar for 'Sin Perdón'GTRES
He rose to fame in the 1970s. He won two Oscars, one for Best Actor in 1971 for his role as Popeye Doyle in
The French Connection
and for Best Supporting Actor in 1993 for
Clint Eastwood's
Unforgiven .
Until on July 7, 2004, Gene Hackman said in an interview with Larry King that
his acting career was probably over
.
In 2008, at the age of 78, he confirmed that he was definitively leaving the film industry to pursue his literary career.
Last January the star turned 93.
