A four-country framework (quad) of Japan, the United States, Australia, and India has started a foreign ministers' meeting in India.

As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues, it is expected that the two sides will confirm that they will promote efforts to maintain and strengthen the international order based on the rule of law.

The Quad meeting, which was held in conjunction with the G20 = Foreign Ministers' Meeting of 20 major countries, began shortly after 11:30 am Japan time, with Minister for Foreign Affairs Hayashi, Secretary of State Brinken of the United States, Minister of Foreign Affairs Wong of Australia, and India's Foreign Minister Jaishankar is present.

At the meeting, it seems that opinions are exchanged over the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, including the East China Sea and the South China Sea, in light of China's strengthening of hegemonic movements.

As Russia continues to invade Ukraine, it is expected that Japan will strongly oppose attempts to change the status quo by force and will promote efforts to maintain and strengthen the international order based on the rule of law.

In addition, the two countries are expected to agree on a policy of promoting practical cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development and maritime security in order to realize a "free and open Indo-Pacific."

On the other hand, Minister for Foreign Affairs Hayashi plans to hold individual talks with the foreign ministers of India and Canada after the meeting, and would like to confirm cooperation on dealing with China and cooperation toward the G7 Hiroshima Summit.
