Charles III's first visit as Head of State is to underline the strong ties between the UK, France and Germany as well as their shared history and culture.

In Paris, the king will inaugurate an exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay in the company of First Lady Brigitte Macron.

But above all, a state banquet will be given in his honor at Versailles and he will address parliamentarians, a first for a British monarch.

Charles and his wife Camilla will end their visit in Bordeaux, south-west France to visit the vineyards devastated by the fires last summer.

A way of talking about climate change, a cause dear to Charles III.

Their Majesties will then spend two days in Germany, in Berlin and Hamburg.

There too on the program, a State banquet and a speech in Parliament.

The sovereign will also attend military training and visit a World War II memorial.

This first state visit to Europe surprised some observers, who were expecting a trip to the Commonwealth, but was held (like any royal visit) on the proposal of the British government.

A strong symbol in a context of post-Brexit negotiations.
