Now the region is launching a campaign to get roughly 7,200 women in the county, who are under 30 years old, to get vaccinated.

It is about the HPV virus (human papillon virus) which can lead to cervical cancer.

- Since it is a virus that causes this type of cancer, we can and must eradicate it and that is really big.

We hope that 80 percent of those called also get vaccinated, says project leader and specialist doctor Viviann Mattsson at Sunderby Hospital.

Children are vaccinated in grade five

Since 2012, all girls have been offered vaccination against HPV via student health in grade five, but women born between 1994 and 1999 are not vaccinated to the same extent.

- We hope that this gathering of forces across the country will be able to stop the spread of HPV in Sweden.

The offer also applies to those who are already vaccinated because the new vaccine, Gardasil 9, provides broader protection than the one given before 2019.
