Urban Brändström was out on the plot of land in the residential area of Tuolluvaara to test a camera to be used in connection with a rocket experiment in March.
What he happened to catch for a few seconds was a surprise to say the least.
Believed in a car with headlights
It was a bolide, that is, a very bright meteor, that entered the atmosphere and lit up the night sky before traveling straight through the northern lights.
- At first I thought it was a car that came with its headlights on, he says.
Watch the meteor split in two
The footage becomes a hot topic for his colleagues at the Institute of Space Physics who specialize in meteors.
In the clip, you can see how the meteor splits into two parts when it enters the aurora borealis.
