Vitalii is a soldier and has spent several months at the war front.

At one point he thought he was going to die.

As he lay buried under Russian artillery fire, he thought about children—and regretted not having any.

Now he is back in Kiev and he and his girlfriend will take the opportunity to freeze sperm.

The couple are not alone.

Halyna Strelko is the head doctor at a fertility clinic that offers free sperm freezing.

She says that the clinic has registered around 100 soldiers so far.

Here, at Halyna Strelko's clinic in Kyiv, 4,500 ml of sperm donated over the past ten years are stored.

In just one milliliter there are about 20 million spermatozoa.

"You can impregnate half of Kiev with a single dose," says Halyna Strelko.
